Congratulations to French immunologist Jérôme Galon who has won the 2019 European Inventor Award in the “Research” category

21 June 2019Congratulations to French immunologist Jérôme Galon who has won the 2019 European Inventor Award in the “Research” category Frédérique Vidal, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, would like to express her warmest congratulations to Jérôme Galon, French immunologist and director of research at INSERM, who has won the 2019 European Inventor Award in the “Research category”. This award was presented to him by the European Patent Office (EPO) in Vienna. TweeterPartagerEnvoyer The invention which won him this award is a test based on patients’ immune response and capable of predicting the risk of relapse in cancer patients. Licensed by the Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM – National Institute for Health and Medical Research) and marketed under the name Immunoscore, this invention is now used worldwide.

Jérôme Galon has already received recognition for the same work, having received awards from the National Academy of Science and the National Academy of Medicine in 2011.

The Inventor of the Year Award is given by the EPO to honour exceptional inventors from Europe and around the world having made a significant contribution to society, to technological progress and to economic growth. The finalists and winners are selected by an independent international jury among the hundreds of inventors who apply each year.
I would like to warmly congratulate Jérôme Galon for this new success, which positions France’s excellence in the field of medical research at the highest European level. His innovation has taken root around the world and will help many patients.

Another French citizen was honoured this year, as Patrizia Paterlini-Brechot was also one of the finalists for her research on the implementation of a blood filtration method to detect the early stages of cancer.
