Prime Minister Justin Trudeau meets with Prince Edward Island Premier Dennis King

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Prince Edward Island Premier Dennis King to discuss shared priorities. The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with the Government of Prince Edward Island. The leaders discussed the recent clean-up efforts following Hurricane Dorian, and the importance of continued cooperation to lessen the impact of future natural disasters. The Prime Minister and the Premier reiterated their commitment to fight climate change and support the transition to a clean growth economy. They discussed green infrastructure projects and partnership opportunities to support jobs and economic development, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, they discussed the importance of strengthening primary and mental health care. They agreed on the need for innovative solutions to manage costs and improve health services. The Prime Minister and the Premier agreed to work in partnership to address the labour shortage in a number of important Island industries so that the Prince Edward Island economy continues to grow. They agreed to continue to collaborate on these shared priorities and other issues of importance to Islanders, and looked forward to the next First Ministers’ Meeting.
