Prime Minister Justin Trudeau meets with the President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with the President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina, on the margins of the 33rd African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  The Prime Minister and the President discussed ways to deepen trade and investment, and the importance of promoting economic opportunities for all, especially youth.  The two leaders exchanged views on the need for innovative climate action and collaboration to help island and coastal states manage the impacts of climate change, and to promote the sustainable use of ocean resources. They also spoke about cooperation on clean energy and urban planning. They discussed the important role played by the African Union in promoting an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa.  The Prime Minister and the President agreed to continue working together to advance shared priorities in multilateral fora such as La Francophonie and the United Nations, further to Canada’s role as 2020 Chair of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission.
